I classify the forgotten years as 1900 to 1960.  These are the years where mining died down and logging and ranching picked up.  Of course there were a few years where mining activity returned, mostly as the metals markets fluctuated.  These are the years prior to the recent (1970 to 2006) influx of large numbers of out-of-staters who changed so much of the character of the basin, some good, some not so good.
The beginning of this period saw the continuation of the mining boom that started in the 1880s.
